Sony ALT Wear Headphones: The New King of Bass 🎧👑

Introduction

Yo, do we have a new king of bass? Let's talk about it. These are the new Sony ALT wear headphones, and you might be wondering if this is a completely new line. No, it's actually part of my favorite line of Sony headphones—the Extra Bass line. The XB is now going to be ALT. You’ll see this name across some of Sony's audio products, like their Bluetooth speakers, giant tower speakers, headphones, and maybe even future earbuds. If you love powerful bass, these are designed just for you.

Design & Build Quality 🛠️

Size and Portability

At a glance, these look very similar to the Mark Fs, except they’re a bit chunkier and have bigger ear cups. Despite their size, they feel very practical and not gigantic. They’re perfectly fine to take outside, unlike the older Extra Bass models which were quite large. Now, you can wear these proudly without looking like a DJ.

Folding Mechanism

Unlike the 1000X Mark 5s, but like their predecessor the 910Ns, these headphones can fold, making it easy to store them in the included case. While it does increase the risk of breaking, the added flexibility for travel is something many appreciate.

Comfort Level

In the comfort department, these over-ear headphones continue to excel. They have soft, wide ear cushions that make long listening sessions enjoyable. So comfort will not be an issue if you plan on using these for extended periods.

Unique Features 🌟

Design Elements

Besides their size, another key difference is the little rainbow prism effect on the Sony logo and the ALT button. While it might not be for everyone, it’s a nice touch.

Material and Build Quality

These headphones are made out of plastic but with a soft finish, giving them a premium feel without the premium price. When compared to the Mark 5s, these feel a bit less smooth but still robust enough to not feel cheap.

Battery Life 🔋

For long listening sessions, these headphones are rated for 30 hours of battery life with active noise canceling on, and 50 hours without. They also have a fast charge feature—10 minutes of charging will give you 5 hours of listening time. And even if the battery dies, you can just plug in the 3.5 mm jack to keep using them.

Audio Quality 🎼

Active Noise Cancelling

With the same processing chip as the 1000X Mark V, the active noise cancelling (ANC) is top-notch. You won't hear anything else around you unless it's absurdly loud. When it comes to blocking out unwanted noise, these headphones excel.

Transparency Mode

The transparency mode allows you to hear what's happening around you, though it feels a bit low in volume. While it’s functional, it’s not the best in the market. Activating this mode is simple—just hold the right earcup.

Customizable Features ⚙️

Using the headphones app, you can customize these headphones to suit your needs. Sony's 360 Audio and a slew of other settings are available, making these headphones versatile for any listening experience.

Sound Quality 🎵

  • For Bass Lovers
  • As part of the Extra Bass line, these headphones are tuned to have more bass right out of the box. For genres like Hip Hop and EDM, these headphones shine.
  • Versatility
  • For those who love singing or high-pitched sounds, the default tuning might not be perfect. But you can easily adjust this using the app’s EQ settings, like the "Bright" preset, to get a clearer sound for other genres.
  • The ALT Button
  • The ALT button works like the old Extra Bass button. Press it for increased bass and air pressure—you’ll get that head-rattling action that bass lovers crave. For an even stronger effect, press it again. This feature allows you to switch between immersive bass experiences and more traditional listening styles at the push of a button.

    Final Thoughts 💭

For $200, these headphones offer great sound quality and robust build quality. They have all the features you'd expect and are an excellent successor to the Extra Bass line. These headphones might be slightly larger, but not to the point of being inconvenient or making you look odd. If you love bass and genres of music or movies with a lot of booms, you’ll be extremely happy with these. They are not for everyone, but for bass enthusiasts, it’s safe to say these are the new king of bass headphones. That was the crown—did you realize that I was putting the crown on? Well, these headphones certainly deserve it! 👑
